MEDICAL LABORATORY TECHNOLOGY

It is a profession that cuts across a wide spectrum of healthcare on account of the vital role it plays on the health of the patient.in analysing and examining body fluids and cells , the results generated by the medical laboratory scientist in conjunction with the technicians and assistants, assists in disease diagnosis ,for casting and management of patients ailments as well as public health surveillance.

What is BSc Medical laboratory technology?

BSc MLT is an allied health profession which deals with the diagnosis, treatment and prevention of diseases using the clinical laboratory tests.

They test, create samples, report and document the investigations. They get to work in pharmaceutical laboratories, public health laboratories or in hospitals. They can also get into field of management as a consultant to laboratory medicine industry.

To boost their career they can opt for higher studies.

Eligibility for admission

Must have passed 10+ 2 with 50% aggregate in physics, biology and chemistry subjects.

Objective and goal of BSc MLT:

  • Make the students aware of principal underlying the organization of clinical laboratory.
  • Able to do routine and special investigation procedure in medical laboratory.
  • Capable of providing good theoretical and practical education.
  • Develop knowledge and skill in accordance with the societies demand in medical laboratory technology.
  • Qualify the student for official approval as medical laboratory technologist.
  • Operate and maintain all equipment in diagnostic laboratory.
  • Able to establish and manage clinical or research laboratory.

Duration: Four academic year with training in reputed institution.

Medium Of Instruction: English.

Second year:

  • Biochemistry

  • Parasitology & Entomology
  • Haematology & clinical pathology.

Third year:

  • Biochemistry
  • Systemic bacteriology & Diagnostic bacteriology
  • Computer application research methodology &laboratory management
  • Blood banking & cytology.

Fourth year:

  • Biochemistry
  • Virology mycology & applied microbiology
  • Histopathology & Cytogenitics
  • Project.

Eligibility for appearing examination:

1.Attendance and condonation options:

  • Minimum 80% attendance
  • Onetime condonation upto 10% on medical grounds (decided by 5 member committee)

2. Internal assessment marks:

  • Best of 1st/2nd & 3rd internal will be calculated for internal assessment.
  • Minimum internal to appear in university exam shall be 50% (12.5 marks).

Valuation:

  • 3 -4 times valuation
  • No revaluation
  • No moderation
  • Only retotaling

Declaration of results:

  • 1st class with distinction > or = 75%
  • 1st class >or =60%
  • 2nd class 50% and 60%
  • Fail 50%
