MEDICAL LABORATORY TECHNOLOGY

Course Duration

4 years, Approved by Government of Kerala, Kerala paramedical council and affiliated to Kerala University of Health sciences (KUHS ).

Eligibility Criteria

To get admission for the programme, the candidate should have passed 10 +2 with :

  • A minimum of 50% aggregate for Physics,Chemistry and Biology put together from a recognised institute.Seperate minimum pass mark for physics,chemistry and biology is mandatory.
  • Candidates should have studied in English.
  • Candidates should have completed the age of 17 years at the time of admission.

Course Description and Scope

Medical Laboratory Technology is an Allied health specialty concerned with the diagnosis, treatment and prevention of disease through the use of clinical laboratory tests. Laboratory professional is a highly skilled scientist who discovers the presence/ absence of disease and the cause of overlying infection and provides data that helps the Physician to diagnose and determine the best treatment for patients.

Students who study Medical Laboratory Technology learn about human Anatomy, Physiology, Biochemistry, Pathology, and Microbiology. The Technologist work in area like Body fluids, Blood banking, studying the Immune system, Hematology, Phlebotomy, Microbiology, the study of Human tissues, Urine analysis, Parasitology, Serology etc.

The program covers practical experiments along with theory classes. The students with a degree in MLT has greater opportunity ahead and they are assured with attractive remunerations packages in the health care sector and other sectors.

Medial laboratory Technologist can attain employment as Medical lab Technologist, Quality control manager, Lab in charge, Biochemist, Microbiologist, Research assistant, Clinical lab scientist, Virologist, Laboratory Assistant, Scientific officer , Phlebotomist Etc. They can also career in education line as tutor, Assistant Professor etc.

1.Attendance and condonation options:

  • Minimum 80% attendance
  • Onetime condonation upto 10% on medical grounds (decided by 5 member committee)

2. Internal assessment marks:

  • Best of 1st/2nd & 3rd internal will be calculated for internal assessment.
  • Minimum internal to appear in university exam shall be 50% (12.5 marks).

Valuation:

  • 3 -4 times valuation
  • No revaluation
  • No moderation
  • Only retotaling

Declaration of results:

  • 1st class with distinction > or = 75%
  • 1st class >or =60%
  • 2nd class 50% and 60%
  • Fail 50%
